I’d like you to join me on this painting adventure on the beautiful Yorkshire coast. Everything is taken care of so that we can develop your plein air painting skills in this inspiring environment.
11th to 15th August 2025
We will be accommodated at COBER HILL, Scarborough, a beautiful Victorian Hotel set in 11 acres of stunning grounds
The course cost includes all tutoring, en-suite accommodation (no single room supplement) and all meals. A fully equipped studio is available for indoor painting and demonstrations, while transport to and from painting locations is also provided.
We start at 3pm on Monday 11th August, gathering in the studio to meet and introduce ourselves. Norman will share anecdotes from painting trips with the Northern Boys, show inspiring examples and talk you through a short painting demonstration. (Norman will be demonstrating in traditional oils but you may use acrylics/water based oils if you wish.) We will answer any questions on plein air painting and check through your equipment, making sure you are ready to go.
On Tuesday we tackle the delights of Scarborough. Norman will be on hand to advise on selecting a subject, drawing, composition and colour mixing. After a well-earned evening meal, you can relax and watch Norman demonstrate an aspect of landscape painting relevant to the challenges we may be facing.
The distinctive town of Whitby awaits us on Wednesday, by which time our visual senses will be on top form. After dinner on Wednesday is a time to relax or work independently in the studio.
On Thursday Norman will assist you in completing work in the studio or painting in the beautiful grounds of Cober Hill. In the evening we all meet back in the studio to celebrate each other’s painting achievements.
The course finishes after a good breakfast and tearful goodbyes on Friday.
The cost for the course including tuition, accommodation, all meals and transport to and from the painting sites is £650.
